Could anyone please let me know the use of social networking sites in SEO. How do we utilize social networking sites such as facebook, twitter etc in SEO... What are all the steps we follow to promote our website by social networking.. What are all the effective ways

Manikkavalli You can list the url of your website on these social networking sites,they can help you increase traffic and backlinks. Just as what Jenny said, it helps you get some traffic from these sites, if you are lucky enough. But backlinks for SERP, hmmm I doubt it. They are all no-follow.
I will give you an example in Twitter. In Twitter, you will try to follow people who are in the same niche or topic as you are promoting. Then they will follow you in return, hopefully... You will then establish your reputation and authority in your niche. After having done that, people will just naturally trust your post and go to your website. Which must be attached in your profile!
