How do I stop bots from joining?

I have a problem. Each day lots of bots are joining and spamming the forum.
I already set up the image verification, but they still get past that.

I wonder if there are more plugins that would secure the forum from bots?

I think I already have that image verification. You are require to tell an image when joining. Where can I find the verification which asks, for example, is fire hot or cold?
