I've been spending years on this one, and mashable is still out of my reach for the keyword "Music Social Network"
Please help me on this.

Mashable is a very reknown social media blog and optimized by a lot of people, I think that in order to outrank mashable is to pick another keyword for your site. Just continue to do link building mate. Mashable blog posts are sometimes featured on the cnn.com website in which get's hundreds of thousands of visitors each day.
You are competing with the big boys on this one and you need to work much harder to one day reach your goal of out ranking a top dog. There is no magic forumla to outrank them but they have t.v. media coverage sometimes so they tend to get a lot more viewers or people searching for there blog.
Just focus more on other long tail keywords besides the one you just mentioned. Try to out rank other sites on other long tail keywords related to your niche. I was just reading this article on long tail keywords before i visited this thread.

Beyond the age and popularity factors for mashable, your 221 links to content ratio might have something to do with it. But you would know that as you have a SEO Specialist link in your signature.
