How can i lock folders and directoris on server?

Hey,
my question is, How i can lock folders on server and give them a password and only if i have the password i can type her and be availdable to see the what in it..

I heard its something with the HTACSSES file, is that true?

theres something called password protect directories...

Upload .htaccess and .htpasswd to the folder you wish to protect (it also protects any subfolders).
