How are you protecting from SPAM?

I don't know about you but i'm recieving over 30 new 'spam' accounts a day.

i have a question + answer, i have tried image captcha and re-captcha but they seem to get through them all.

setting e-mail to be validated stops 95% of them from posting, but i'm still deleting these accounts manually.

what steps can i take to prevent this?
what plugins are available that helps?

Im not sure how to answer as it seems you have everything, I do know the re-captcha if set properly will stop most from even registering. Question when you enbaled re-captcha did you go to the re-captcha site and enter in your information and get your two keys required to use it? If not just selecting the option does nothing it must be activated with the keys.... I have a rather large site with over 10,000 members and I dont have the problem your talking about....
