Google's Similar Sites Feature: All Pages On Website Show Up The Same

Hi All,

I recently noticed something interesting on our site wwwdotclassicreplacementsdotcom. When you check google's "similar pages" feature, all the pages on the site return the same sites, even though every page talks about different products.

I've checked competitor's websites and there Google returns different "similar sites" for different pages.

Does anybody have an idea why this is happening and what to do about it?

Thanks,
Josh Google recently has introduced a lot of new features. Some of which are not that intuitive and user-friendly. I doubt any users will actually click on the "similar pages' link. More than likely, they will just do another search. Not much is known about how Google pulls up these "similar sites" and what algorithms are behind it. Linking has something to do with it and pagerank also has something to do with it. I have seen the "similar pages" are way off topics. I bet Google will refine their selection criteria. Point taken, what concerns me is not people, but Google. Is Google seeing my site in a wrong way which is causing this bug? We have been having difficulty ranking on long-tail keywords as we would like to.

I think that's an interesting anomaly. But let me get it straight. You are concerned because every indexed page of your site has the same domains when you get the results for "similar" pages? you might just do it wrong.. try this search query similar:www.yoursite. com that is for similar and for what you are saying, i believe its the related:www.yoursite. com Exactly

You're right, I double checked and I've been using the "similar" button on the google toolbar, but the query is for "related", but that just tweaks my question a bit, because the related query should pull up different results for different pages as well. At least it does for most websites I've checked.

That is not a valid advanced search operator. That searches for the text "similar" and "www.yoursite.com" rather than sites which are similar. The only advanced search operator to search for similar sites is the "related" command. Does anybody have any thoughts on this? Quote: Originally Posted by ClassicReplacements Hi All,

I've checked competitor's websites and there Google returns different "similar sites" for different pages. How much does the content of these pages vary? Do they vary enough that they can be distinguished a different, or is the content vary so little that there is no distinction?

<added> For the pages of your site that Google does offer the "Similar" link for I see different results. If you're typing in each url individually, Google may not have indexed "similar" sites based on that page and may be giving you the default set for the index page. They used to return no results found, but that may have changed to just showing the searcher the default set for the index page. Google's advanced search operators are a bit quirky by design and intent. Keep that in mind.</added>
