Why does Google rank Wikipedia for so many topics?
umesh G thinks wikipedia is very authorative. Because Wikipedia nofollows all offsite links. They have all those links inbound passing juice while few if any links passing juice going out. wikipedia is a great website. google knows that just like us
Google rank wikipedia.com for more keywords but for single phase keywords mostly, the big G knows people who type for single phase keywords really want information and none other then wikipedia give real good information.

umesh Above one already answered well but I would like to add my own opinion. This happens because Wikipedia itself has a much strong authority status from Google perspective. Most of contents and links are "editorial" and not just anyone can post anything and linking to everythings without moderate first. Wikipedia is an organizational website and google give first priority to org, gov and edu site. So for that reason google rank Wikipedia for so many topics. The content of wikipedia is trusted by google and people around the world. Everyone knows that Wikipedia is so popular. apart from that wikipedia is started on 2001. Its has quality backlink in google. Google trusted Wikipedia is good to provide information.
