Google and the nofollow tag

I use the nofollow tag on lots of my links. Would this make google keep my PR low on those pages where I do that? Would it be better to let G follow the links in most cases?skThe nofollow tag has been hijacked. It was designed to be used on links that were added by visitors, like blogs and forums, Not links added by the webmaster. If you put a nofollow on links google will treat them like they are not there.. But then if everyone done that it would render pagerank useless (well, more useless than it is now). The way i see it, if you want to link to a site it should be a good site, so why not give them google credit for it.But in answer to your question, yes, Adding a nofollow will mean google does not give any credit to that site you are linking to through that link. It will have a minimal effect, if any, on your own PR though.I guess it was designed for bloggers so people wouldn't post just for the PR or free link back, which is a good thing. But I read that you can lose PR by giving links. Guess that does sound stupid as the Web is built on links. My main concern was google's view of that particular tag. There is a theory that the PR passed on to sites you link to is taken from the site linking to them.. But i don't believe it.It makes no sense for google to penalise sites for linking out, and if that was the case, where did the first ever PR come from if its taken from the pr of the site linking..dmoz is a PR 9 site and they have 5,287,541 outgoing links, so it hasn't done them any harm.I don't think PR is nearly as important as it once was and I wouldn't be surprised if G does away with it at some point. My pages with no PR rank as well or better than those with a decent PR. Odd thing is I have a reasonably high PR on home page but none on the other pages since the ban was lifted. Can't figure that out.
