Going from a nulled/keygened version to a real version

Hello all,
Just got a quick question, forgive me if it's been asked before.

Let's say you used a nulled/keygened of vB 3.8.1 for testing purposes, as you wanted to check vB was right for the job you wanted. You designed a nice style for it, possibly added in some mods. You didn't want to purchase until you were sure and thus a demo provided by vB would not allow you to really try things out.

Now you are sure vB is the thing you need, so you want to be a good person and pay for a licence. Is it possible to somehow remove whatever the nulled/keygened version does and then enter a valid licence that you have purchased from vB?

Basically you would want to preserve all the data and settings, changing only the licence to a nice valid one.

Any information appreciated.
 
So an FTP overwrite is basically all that is required, and obviously once you access the install file it's going to ask for your lovely new key.

Helps to know it's possible. The idea being that you find yourself in a position where there is an illegal version of vB installed and you want to be good and make it legal, but don't want to loose any of the content from the forum.
