Getting irrelevant backlinks. Does it really work?

So, I am seeing some sites advertising backlink building services. When I ask them to provide a list of sites where my link will be placed, the sites they give me are irrelevant to my niche.

However, their own sites rank pretty high in Google for the stuff they advertise and they are saying they build their popularity the same way.

I am also seeing a lot of spam in the forums with irrelevant links, etc. So, does this stuff still work? I was under the impression that only relevant links matter (I still believe in this). nope it doesn't help...

Let me remind you that google keep in eying spammy sites Yes relevancy does matter in creating backlinks and due to this most of the webmaster prefer to same niche for backlinking. Hi Poster,

Nice to see Mjoseph telling us the importance of relevancy. His links point to junk yard sites on an internet marketing forum. : P

I think relevant links are important insofar as the people that encounter them are more likely to be interested in the site once they click. But from an SEO perspective? I don’t think so. Indeed I’ve seen some competitors rank based on totally irrelevant link profiles. : P

So there it is.

Thanks!
