After being frustrated with many clients and friends of mine using oversold shared hosting accounts for $8 a month and having to help them sort out why their emails won't go through or get to certain domains, I'm considering getting a fully managed dedicated server with a friend. I've done some reading on here tonight and looked at a few companies..
-LiquidWeb (I've used them before for another client, great support, though their managed dedicated is a bit higher than I was budgeting for now, though it seems to be all inclusive and proactive management). I see their Managed VPS is $60 a month, not much RAM though. Would it be seemless to upgrade from their VPS to dedicated at a later date?
- DedicatedNow has some budget/on sale servers at 1.4-1.7ghz for $49-59 a month (plus $20 for cpanel), which seems like it would meet our needs. I see their server management runs $35-60 a month, so total cost of $105-135 a month. I do not know what their managed service includes. Anyone have experience with this?
Any other recommendations? We'd have 15-20 small business or
small non-profit sites on the server, some use CMS or phpBB, low traffic overall. Will be hosting 5-10 email newsletters through php software.
Prefer to stay under $130 a month. If your budget allows it, Liquid Web Seems to get a lot of good recommendations. I work at a forum that uses a Liquid Web Server and Liquid Web has always been right there to help out whenever needed with the growth If you prefer to stay under $130 a month I doubt you'll find what you need on liquidweb for that price. I haven't read any reviews from DedicatedNOW, but you can probably respect someone with almost 1,500 posts on WHT. Personally, I have 3 dedi servers with liquid web and haven't had a problem. Their support is fantastic. Good luck, sounds like you're on the right track!LiquidWebthe best i thinksForget to get a realible managed hosting service for less than $130 per month! You can not pay the price of relibility if you have a budget like this.Forget to get a realible managed hosting service for less than $130 per month! If you pay peanuts you get monkeys. For a server businesses would rely on in order to perform their daily functions, to make their money, I wouldn't spend under $400/mth for basic email and light web-traffic. Forget the Crazy-Eddie providers.Regards,
