Since FormMail was disabled I have been looking for some replacements. I chose a Perl script, which was beyond simple to use, but I am still getting a 500 Internal Server Error. I'm not exactly sure what is going on. I tried moving the location of the cgi file into a directory called "perl". I'm not quite sure where to go from here. Any ideas?
Hi,

Do you have any more information about this error, or a page we can look at?

Jim
What are the permissions you have set on the file(s)? What scripts are you running? The more details you provide the easier it is to dianose. Internal Server Error is a very general error and can be caused by a number of things. It often helps to look at your error log (which can be accessed from your cPanel). If it says something like, directory is writable by all, or file is not executable, it is a likely a permissions problem.
Uh oh! (An excerpt from my Error Log)
[2003-06-02 13:16:38]: error: file has no execute permission: (/home/sgarrett/public_html/perl/GID-contact.cgi)

I didn't even think of that... But- I have FTP Commander, and I don't think it allows me to set permissions.

Any ideas?
There are probably tools to change permissions in CPanel but there are definitely dozens of free ftp tools that allow you to do it.

I use FTP Surfer and WS FTP. Surfer is easier to understand, but WS FTP has features that the other one doesn't have.

For this job, I'd suggest FTP Surfer. It's free.

http://www.whispertech.com/surfer/download.htm
Yes, you can change permissions from the File Manager in cPanel. Often you can right click on the file to edit it's properties in other programs. FTP Commander is limited in this respect. I use Filezilla and Smart FTP as well.
Ladies and gentleman... It just so turns out I am not cursed. I actually managed to get a PHP script to work. Thanks for all of the help everyone! TCH is so helpful!
