Hi everyone,

I have just found this forum and thought I would ask for some help (I just hope I am in the right area :) )

I am very new to HTML in fact I know very few things and I was wondering if anyone has any sites or books that they could recommend.

I would be interest in tutorials for someone with no programming experience.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
KarindaSome good links that I used when I was beginning to learn were:

HTML Goodies (http://www.htmlgoodies.com)
W3Scools (http://www.w3schools.com)

Just go to your nearest book store and i'm sure every HTML book will suit your beginner needs.Originally posted by Rock
Please note, though HTML Goodies is a great place to learn, it is so out-dated it's not even funny. So I would not recommend learning much of anything from there anymore. Also, I second Rock's suggestion of picking up a book.Thank you so much for your help but I have just one more question and it may sound extremely dumb but here goes any way.

I did read HTML goodies and it did help me to understand the workings of HTML.

I suppose the thing that is most confusing to someone just starting is all the tags. I just wanted to know if there was like a master listing of the most commonly used? or is it just something you pick up on?

I know it may sound a little dumb but I am only just learning.

TIA

KarindaOnly once you understand HTML can you understand HTML goodies :) (please don't say gangsta below this buntine :), i too am very bored, so I feel like annoying you :D )I think it will be something you pick up on..

Check out www.htmlkit.com for a great xHTML editor. Once you get the hang of it, you will be fine.

Regards. Thanks Buntine I will have a look. I know that once I get started it will be ok it is just getting started that's the problem.

Thanks again :)

KarindaAhh, i see your from Melbourne ;) I just moved from the Melb area to Perth. Weathers good

It is getting really cold here now ahh you can not beat Melbourne weather.

Karindajust in case anybody is too lazy to check out the links (like i would be), here is the list i've thought up of tags used. (please fill in the ones i've forgotten):

<h1-7></h1-7>

<layer></layer>

those are just the ones i can think of off the top o' my head.

http://www.xhtmlcoder.com/xhtml.htm might give you a clue.

I don't recall there being a <h7> tag, and some other others that rhsunderground listed aren't used anymore in favor of CSS, which you can check out at w3schools.i was told of an <h7> tag in my web pub. class. never used it.Your teacher needs shooting :DThank you so much everyone for your help this should definitely get me started :)

Hello - another novice here.

I am really pleased Karindah started this thread - saved me doing it!!!

I had previously looked at several tutorials - and couldn't understand a word of them.
Then I came across HTML Goodies, and found I could make sense of it.

I had thought that it was because I have XP Pro, that I had to do things differently. It was only when I read this thread, that I found out the tutorial is out of date!!!! I have just got to primer 3. Should I continue - to get the practise in?

Guess I will have to get down to a bookshop, too.
:)

I have taken a look at htmlkit.com - not that it makes any sense at the moment, but I have put it into my favourites for future reference.

As for xhtml/coder -
i recommend HTML For The World Wide Web by Elizabeth Castro (Peachpit Press). it shows both coding and screenshots. the 5th edition is 21.99 dollars, 16.99 pounds. it's worth it.
