escaping "<" in xsl using cdata and javascript

hi all,i want to escape "<" in javascript while i am using xsl.I have tried cdata in javascript but it does not seem to work in IE5.Plsreply me.The code goes like this...<Script language="Javascript">function fnOption(){a=0;if(a<1){alert(a);}}</Script>If I write the above script in xsl,it does not seem to work in IE5.Pls advise.
