Hello
Does anyone have a website that offers an email service? Would that be a complex and expensive thing to set up? I'm guessing the bandwidth usage could shoot up quick, but it would be easy for a capable person to lower the storage amount for each account, correct? Would the necessary spam filters come with such a script/program? Does anyone have any suggestions where to get information about such a service, or anything else that would be useful to know?
Thanks in advance for any replies
Why not just use gmail or one of the other email services?

I wouldn't recommend setting up email accounts for others, because it won't be long before a spammer uses an account, and your account will be suspended / terminated and the spammer will not care in the slightest
As Andy already mentioned the reasons for not doing this you might also want to read this thread.
Hello
Ok, I see that such a thing is banned on a shared server and dangerous to have. Out of curiousity, couldn't a limit be placed on the amount an account could send in a given time period, and in case they just kept opening new accounts to send more, a limit on the # of accounts opened with each ip address? Is there such a thing as an outgoing spam filter? If so, could spammers easily work around it? So, even the big companies such as Yahoo have trouble preventing spammers from using their email systems to send a bunch of spam?
Thanks
questionmark, I know TCH has a limit on the amount of email that can be sent out in a short amount of time. If you want to know the exact limit, you'll have to open a help desk ticket.
Even with the limits in place, this is not good on a shared hosting account.
As many of the Mods and customers have already stated, It is not advisable to open an Email service using a shared server.
If you look around you will see that Email list servers are quite pricey and there is a reason for that. Email utilizes a lot of resources and should your account on our shared servers cause high loads and or is used to send out Spam then your account can and will be suspended. We take great measures to keep our servers IP's off of Blacklists as well as maintain that the servers loads are not impactedby individual users.
Hello
I have no plans to disregard everyone's advice and the rules. I'm just trying to inform myself on different possibilities and I've seen somewhere that having your own email service would be a way to build a mailing list. Does anyone know of a service that offers an email service from their own servers that you can brand as your own and somehow incorporate into your own site? Someone that has a set up worthy of stopping most spammers? This may be a stupid question with no benefit to begin with, but it doesn't hurt to ask I guess.
Thanks
You could try this:

https://www.google.com/hosted/Home
