Are .edu links more valuable than .com links? If so, how much more valuable. I can start a website at the .edu domain of the college I went to. Is this worth doing just for the link value?Google doesn't see any TLD as being more valuable than any other..edu links have more trust, thousands of links pointing to them and they are relatively older. They are a real jackpot if you have some. But I am sure a site like http://site.edu/students/3sem/~entra/ will not look as effective as a .com site to your users. They don't have more "trust" based on the TLD extension. It's because they tend to have more authoritive links pointing to them. Google doesn't factor the TLD extension into it's algo for anything.meman wrote:IMO it really does not make a big difference whether you have dot edu or dot com extension. What is important is the quality of your site and the vote that it gets from other sites makes the difference.Quote:If you wanna get an domain for your college I think you must get one .edu domain because is more representative. In fact .edu is for education .com is for comercial area and .org for an organization !Good luck !manumiglani wrote:meman wrote:A .co.uk hosted in America has added value and one which I capitalise on in my work.A .co.uk hosted in the UK can thrive in google.co.uk but it can suffer and is harder to rank in my experience in google.comA .co.cuk hosted in America can rank very well and is classed as a UK site so can do well in google.co.uk but also transfers well into google.com and can rank there also even if its a UK product or service. The above are all dependent on certain other key factors so it isn't quite as simple as that but thats my experience from physical tests on the many sites/tests that I run continually.I don't know that they are more valuable, but its my understanding that not just anyone can go out and get a .edu domain. I think the average user will see .edu websites as being more credible. What do you think of someone selling a permanent page on site.edu, what would be the value of such a page? All things equal, its no more valuable than a page on a .com, .net or .ccDoes .edu really work? maybe in the past
