Is google give more important to the .EDu and .GOV links? How much it is important.? Hi,
It is right that backlinks from .edu and .gov would usually have more values over those links from .net, .info. But, backlinks from niche relative authority sources would be the best ones.
all the best, My understanding is, the importance should be solely reflected by pagerank. .Edu and .Gov links should just have higher average page ranks. Quote: Okay,so, my standard answer, and I'm talking about web search rankings, has always been that Google basically treats links the same, you
know. We use the fact that you have PageRank. So, we know how reputable the site is, and so, you don't just look at the number of links to a site. You look at how reputable those links are, and links don't really matter whether they come from a .gov or an .edu. A .com site which has a pr of 5 is better than a .gov site which has a lower pr Backlinks from .edu adn .gov sites surely help. They have higher level of authority and thus value high. These backlinks will benefit you a lot.. In the same situations, i think Google loves .eud and .gov domains more, but there are many .com, .org and ... domains are ranking higher than .eud and .gov domains. And it shows only domain extension is not a main factor. So i mean its better that you make backlinks for your website from relevant websites. And if you found a relevant .eud and .gov domains, get backlinks from them too. I think .gov and .edu links are very important. If you analize your web using woorank.com you will see there's a section about those links.
I'm not telling woorkank is Google but is one more proof.
Greetings! Google gives very much important to .EDu and .GOV links, These links are known as authority links. Back links from these sites help a lot to bring the site at the top position.
Thanks,
with regards

I believe Google has been giving added value to links from .Edu & .Gov pages since quite a while(I presume).
I don't think they would totally disregard that factor now due to abuse. In that sense they would have to disregard all the factors picked from backlinks as SEO(atleast the way we follow it) is all about manipulation.
Matt Cutts could have just said that in that vid so as to make a psychological effect in people's mind to help contribute in reducing spam, atleast to the .Edu & .Gov sites(which are the respected ones).
There's absolutely no way we would know(apart from testing which isn't always accurate) what Google's algo is made of. So he can just lie about anything and no one would ever know, but his lies could be for a good cause(according to him).
To be honest, even if you were him as the head of the Webspam team of Google, in no way would anyone be stupid enough to accept that .edu and .gov links hold more backlink value.
Wouldn't doing so just divert most of the spam directed from xxxxxxxx(amount/integer) sites to the xxxx .edu and .gov sites? the link from .edu or .gov domain have higher priority than from other domains. i think it's all about "trust" factor Looking through my Awstats for a couple of months I have the following sample links that were clicked from .edu sites:
http://classroom.phoenix.edu/...
http://bb.abtech.edu/...
http://aprendeenlinea.udea.edu.co/
http://blackboard.hancockcollege.edu/...
http://learning.fresno.edu/...
Do these help me with Google (or any other search engine) - No because they are all behind a login - the search engines can't see them. Are they important? Yes because they drive some traffic to my site.
I also have some articles listed at http://www.d.umn.edu/... which are public so the search bots can see those. That site hasn't had any new additions for a few months so guess getting anymore from there is moot at the moment.
All of these links earned being
