Eclipse - Palette icons and graphical layout issue for Android Development

i am using the latest eclipse ide for java for android development and recently started development course from pluralsight ..as the course videos were targeted for android 1.6 apis i am using those as target. and ADT ver 20.0..but the icons in acitivity_main.xml layout is not as shown in video moreover the icons when double clicked do not simulate like it does in the emulator..i dont know if there may be a setting issue regarding the view or any thing at this level of course training...the graphical layout should be i think in black background with icons replicating exactly like in the emulator but mine graphical layout not showing icon but just their text like "button",,
