Who is the earliest Search Engine? Was the page rank concept working at that time? Google invented PageRank, so the question about the earliest search engine is unrelated really. Here ya go,

Why do you think the resource provided is wrong? The concept of search engines really emerge in the nineties when two PHD students provide the concept of search engine. Aliweb was the first one, but it wasn't very popular. The first really popular search engine, I think, was Web Crawler. The first one's I ever used were Web Crawler and northern light. Why do you think the resource provided is wrong? The first Search Engine was called Archie(cool name huh?) in 1990 by Alan Emtage. But as someone mentioned above me the first "google" like search engine was Aliweb. Hope this helps!
