Duplicate content

There was an article last month with the title:"How my Google Page Rank went from 0 to 5 in one update".I'm sure many of you know this article because is duplicated everywhere. The author suggested to write a quality article a week and then publish it to a 100 sites with your website link in the signature. The point is that in every SEO guide I read one of the most important suggestion was to not duplicate contents because search engines penalize sites with duplicate content. My questions are:1: Do you think he really received a boost from this tecnique?2: Had the publishers sites been penalized because of the duplicate contents?3: He published the same article in his own website, so he had to be penalized too but his website, http://www.mr-seo.com is still rank 5.Quote:Generally the search engines will do whatever makes good common sense in terms of sorting the wheat from the chaff. So, if someone is cloning site A twenty times, with lots of links all pointing to site B - just so that they can artificially elevate the pagerank of site B, then you can expect that kind of tactic to be (rightly) penalised - because it's just filling the web with rubbish. On the other hand, syndication of articles and publishing the same articles in different magazines is something that has been happening in print since Caxton - and is a perfectly legitimate usage. The search engines are just trying to do what any human reader would do - assess whether something is good useful content, or polluting rubbish - so if you stick to providing the first you won't go far wrong...Thank you for your interesting answers.
