domain in redemption period. Shouldn't it be 30 days?

I checked one domain with this info:

Status: REDEMPTIONPERIOD
EPP Status: redemptionPeriod
Updated Date: 25-May-2006
Creation Date: 20-Apr-1998
Expiration Date: 19-Apr-2006

The registrar may be artificially holding this expired domain. What can be done to get it released?
