I've built tons of sites in my life. Recently I've been building a couple of very tight niche sites in Wordpress like I normally do. I had good backlinks, good internal linking, good on page optimization but google was NOT picking the pages up...at all. It was spidering the heck out of them but not acknowledging it anywhere. I had several experienced people look over them and no one saw anything wrong with anything on page or off page. We were perplexed. I chalked it up to the Sandbox and kept building away knowing I'd pop out on the top when I finally came out. Then it hit me to try a different keyword density program that looks at the page and not just the post. *POW* That was it. Densities of 8% + due almost exclusively to the sidebars, tags, etc in a very tight niche.
The real point of my story is this. Even if you think you have it down, even if you've been doing it for years and know it, even if you want to blame it on on freakin google it may just be you and some error that is so obvious you can't even see it.
Create a checklist and use it every single time. That will keep you from mistakes.
My name is Jake..I was a spammer. wow that was some info. well, density is very important although i keep watch of those since these are one of the primary things concerning when optimizing sites/pages.
although somehow this gave me an idea that "exclusively to the sidebars, tags, etc in a very tight niche" could cause much in doing SEO. Thanks for sharing. A checklist is always a good idea. There are so many aspects that need to be covered with every "new" adventure, and one slip can really set you back. that's right you might have miss something.. do you have a robots.txt? or something like noindex on your codes.. try to check all of it.. I thought you were going to say that the privacy option in WordPress was still checked or something. Keyword density in the sidebars - didn't see that coming.
Interesting, I would have hoped that Google would discount the density in repeated content like a sidebar. Still possible it's a coincidence though, after all an 8% density isn't unheard off for genuine copy written without spamming.
My thoughts on this always seem to come back to... don't concentrate on density, except when it's extreme in either direction, then it becomes a problem. This just reaffirms that.
