HI
Would it help if I made 2 domains, made a lot of good backlinks to those domains, and from those domains just made a 301 to my main site? That means the "Sub" domains just being for redirection? Note that they are hosted on the same IP.

.Adam Technically there's no problem with redirecting domains to other domains since google recognizes 301 redirect. Having multiple domains would somehow be feasible only if you try to take advantage of having two domains instead of just having one domain. One very good example is with the use of the rich keyword domain name(seo wisely). With two or more domains you get more help with seo friendly "domain name". You could target as many keywords as you want depending on the number of your domain. here's a link to Advantage of a keyword rich domain name and also a link about the more explanation about keyword domain usage.

Although this is a feasible technique, it's could give you a negative if done improperly. So you have to be careful. If I were in your position, I'd be willing to accept other domains that redirects on my site any time of the day. But i would focus more of my seo strategy/link build campaign to my original site or 301 redirect beneficiary site. I'll just leave the other domains as redirect url's as it is. Anyway here's a link about Setting up Additional Domains for a Website.
Also see this Resource1 | Resource2 about Advantage and Disadvantage of redirecting multiple URLS.

Hope this helps. in one word. NO.

It is a sure way to get your site penalized and the wrong approach to SEO. Why not get all those backlinks to the main site and use good anchor text ? Agree with Nima....
However, if you had two hosts you would have different ip addresses....

You can cross link and get some benefit........not very much....

Be careful about overloading keywords...."stuffing" is a penalty with the big G wouldn't that be just a waste? if you will be creating 2 other sites and build links for it then why not develop those 2 new sites and use it to promote your main website and earn from it at the same time as well...
