Does Password Protecting Dir Hurt PR?

I should probably password protect my directories for my website, but have not because I am unsure if this will affects my rankings with google, yahoo, ect. What are the pros and cons.... is it all pro? Does this affect what the bots will crawl. I am already indexed and have above average rankings for multiple keywords. That's not what you want. You want 700 on all those _vti_ files. All you need to do is set the correct permissions. Read some text files on web server permissions.And setting directory permissions is different than passwording your directories.By just setting permissions and with modifications to your robots.txt file, you can control what gets indexed.If you actually have to restrict access to particular areas with a password, then the spiders will be stopped also, and that content will not be indexed.
