Does my DB host sucks?

My host admin told me that allowing me to have access to my db out of of the box creates problems to the server, though I use myphpadmin I need to use MS Acess often and getting access to mySQL DB through Acess is quite helpful.

Is this normal or does my hosting service just sucks?
