do you need to logg off if you use ociplogon

I would like to find out if you need to loggoff if you use ociplogon in oracle using php4. i've been told that you shouldn't need to, but the web server i've been using has been suffering from a lot of open proccesses that have apparently been opened by scripts that have already terminated.
