Do you have a 'dormant' google adwords account? if so beware

To my shock I opened my credit card statement today to find the charge from Google for adwordsThis was a shock because I had not advertised with google in over 12 months, probably more like 18 months. I paused my account, because I felt I was the victim of fraud.Well, today, I was charged for advertising. Advertising which I never authorised. Somehow my account had been reactivated, and clicks had started to accrue. I am not talking a million dollars but not a few cents either. to a sole proprietor a few hundred dollars makes a difference.I got a very swift response from Google when I complained, but the response was laughable. They said, you only cancelled the account today, what are you complaining about.Of course I cancelled the account today, did they think I was going to leave it running? It did not occur to them to look at the last 18 months and just see how many charges they had sent me, which was Nil.So if you have a Google account that you have placed on hold, make sure that they haven't reactivated it.If this is some sort of programming error from supposedly the kings of programming. Then what else can you trust them with. I read a report, where Google claims they only had a 0.02% fraud rate. Can you believe that! After today, I cannot believe anything Google says!Even if I was so stupid as to leave the account active and ads running then how can they explain not sending me a single bill in the last 18 months. And I know I'm not that stupid. If you know anybody that has a Google account. That may be deactivated and therefore they are not expecting bills. Tell them to check that account, because they might be surprised to find it's been reactivated.I get the strange feeling someone you've done business with activated the account & funeled clicks through it like nobody would notice it.For all Google knows, that someone was you.Take it to court, force them to track down every click that was charged to the account & see if there's a pattern somewhere.Could you tell me how a Google adwords account is set up? Is it set up to an individual or a domain? Because I purchased my business and domain from someone who used to use Google adwords and he told me he stopped using it. Well, several months after purchasing the business I started seeing charges in my PayPal account for adwords. I was forced to take over the PayPal account ... long story I won't bore you with. I emailed him several times (previous owner) and he couldn't figure out his user name/password so I just canceled the debit card it was being charged to.Now after reading this I hope I am not responsible for any accruing charges on my domain. Thanks for any insight on this. SuzanneDid someone start up your account and send clicks to your site or another site? Also, I would think they would be able to track the ip of people logging in.An adwords account is not tied into a domain. An adwords account is tied to an individual, agency or company. If you just purchased a domain from someone, you should not be charged with adwords. Plus, a Google Adwords account cannot even be directly charged to a Paypal account. You may really want to look at what those Paypal charges are for.I believe the previous owner used his PayPal debit card. Is there a way to have recurring/automatic payment by credit card that you know of? SYes, if he still has his credit card tied to that account and he didn't pause the account, he will continue to get billed...either until you pause the campaign, remove the credit card, or until the credit card expires. If you are having a problem that he cannot remember his username/password, have him or you call Google Adwords:1-866-2-Googlejoebert wrote:Go into your account. Click on the Tools link. Take a look at the My Change History link. You might be able to find more information on when this all happened. Thanks for the advice. I looked and there is no history except for the item where I disabled the account after recieving the charge. So the question is why did my account suddenly start accrueing clicks after not getting any for in excess of 18 months. This happened to me, like 35.00 worth, just make sure you disable to account. If you dont know how, you can easily call google adwords and they will tell you how I am not talking about $35 dollarshere are some facts straight from googles own statisticsit clearly show something happened in january They claimed I re-enabled the account in august (I was interstate attending to my dying mother around that time)So what happened in january?and I found out they owed me money, now they claim I owe them?I originally stopped the account because I went from a 40% return on investment to nil. I was convinced and still am that I was the subject of either click fraud or deliberate click manipulation by competitors.
