From my experience, I found out that they don't affect the ranking negatively at all - indirectly. If any, if you do not use URL shorteners it might improve the ranking of your website's Twitter URL if it contains the keywords that users are searching for.
There might be some evidence that not having URL shorteners (where the domain name has the keywords being searched for) can actually impact the ranking of the website positively as it acts as a backlink.
So having a good balance of using URL shorteners and the actual URL itself is good practice. I think they don't help you're site to rank since the twitter links are nofollow. But tweeting good content can bring you traffic. Yes i also support gemerone view no follow links are not benefited but this is also true that you will get enough amount of traffic for your website Quote: Originally Posted by gamerone http://www.v7n.com/forums/seo-forum...witter-help-websites-ranking.html#post1550701
interesting experiment they did actually. It definitely helps, there was an article last week that google officially confirmed that they watch social networks and they give you better ranking if the sites are listed there also yeah, that's what I have observed with some websites that have a twitter page. the rankings just jumps! In one instance the Twitter URL outranked the website in google! I couldn't believe it myself. i think they somehow help to your website, because, the shortened link will be redirected to your website...
