please bag me later

I know this is going to sound stupid but for .zip files, do I upload them in Binary or ASCII?Actually, its not a stupid question
Upload them in ASCII.If you are not sure and there is an 'auto' option, use that.yeh, I was using 'force ascii', I never uploaded any files other than text before. When I uploaded, Cute FTP said 'warning, you are uploading in ascii, file will not run' or something like that. When I put it on auto, it uploaded in ascii.

Thanks for all the help Ian!hey, are you sure about that Ian? When I was in the settings section of cute ftp, it says 'text files are always transferred in ascii and others in binary'

I always thought text files were uploaded in binary? please help! I'm getting lost and my whole site was uploaded in ascii and it seems fineText and HTML as well as script files, like .php, .cgi, .pl, etc generally should be uploaded in ASCII. Image and multimedia files get uploaded in binary. Your FTP software's auto feature only works to the extent that it "knows" which files should be uploaded which way. You generally have to check that and make sure that each file type is associated with the correct upload methond. That said - I've uploaded .zip files before but for the life of me I can't remember in which format.upload .zip files in binary. it will work if you do it in ascii but when you unzip them it will have the returns in it if it was a text file. it will look like a little box after ever line. but if not a text file it shopuldn't hurt.

any script that has to be run should be in ascii, php, cgi,pl,asp, js (won't hurt) and txt. but txt it won't matter.thanks zenyyeta and scoutt, you guys cleared everything up
