Do I need to upgrade Pear as well?

Greetings,

I have upgraded my application to php5. After that, the app' perfomance has degraded greatly.
The application uses Smarty and some of the Pear libraries, Those, I have not upgraded.
I run the appl' on IIS 5 and 6. I have checked it as ISAPI and as CGI.
We are in the process of moving to Apach on Unix, but untill than - any idea as to why we suffer perfomance problems?
