Can someone define related websites. My definition of this is competitor sites, am I wrong?
When I try to do link building, I hardly hear back! Maybe my email sounds spammy?
I try to go for non-competitive sites, but sites that are near to the product I'm offering - for example, web design sites for my hosting business. Am I on the right track.
I have 5 websites, I try and get backlinks to them but it's not as easy these days.
Actually, I'm #2 in Google for "website directory" which I'm over the moon about - thing is, my other sites are a main topic (like my hosting business), so linking with competitors defeats the object to be competitive IMHO, no? Quote: Related - being connected either logically or causally or by shared characteristics It is normal that you find your competition directly related to your website. While other relating websites are those within your niche. If you have known well your niche, it wouldn't be hard to identify which websites are related to yours and which are not. Ex. Business - management, consulting, services. If you offer Business management, then it's automatic that everything under business management category is your direct competition while those under business consulting and business services are the relating sites from which you could get link for your website. It's not easy finding a link but you can try different strategy apart from linking to competitors. What I can think of is, it can be review sites related to hosting or just any webmasters' blog. My view is that those niche are 'related' to yours. Quote: Originally Posted by effdate review sites related to hosting Most of them (for eg. Yes - Most of relevant websites under your similar category are your competitors, both direct and indirect
No - There are many relevant websites that are not your competitors either, both direct and indirect as well.

Also, analyzing your top competitors' sites and finding backlinking sources would be really effective for this purpose. it's like building a good reputation for your site just by having your link on them.
