I am looking for help with back links. I am trying to find out whether it is better to always link to the front page (i.e domain) or to interior pages for specific keywords.
Which one provides the best return on investment (both time and money) for backlinks?
I know that Matt Cutts recommends link building to the main page only, but what about keywords that are directly related to a specific page? The advice I have been given on here is that a combination of both is good. I use place such as forums and blog comments to create links to my main landing page but write articles and blogs to create deep links using relevant key words. I usually do a mix of about 70% (front page) and 30% (secondary pages). Yea almost same to me 80% (main page) 20% (secondary pages) Always mix the two, I always work with the model that all links should look natural even though we are building them. Think of how other people would link to your site and go from there. Some would link to the front pages, and some would link only to the pages that are of any importance to them. Plus linking to your deep pages will help you in getting those ranked in the future. Yes , I also mix them 80/20 %. Quote: Originally Posted by sweetamber Yes , I also mix them 80/20 %. What do you find to be of benefit with this ratio? How do you distribute the 20%? Always do both. Always. When building links, I usually use different landing pages ( both home page and internal pages) to make it look natural and to cover up or target different set of keywords. Importance of the Home page is more then internal page we have to put our main keyword on home page other supportive keyword on internal page. Our link building is based on the keyword competition. Depending on the site, for example I have one that homepage receives about 5% of all visits, most visits coming to inner pages. So definitely building links to inner pages..On a general note, about 70-30 should be a good ratio. Would think you would want people taken directly from the link to the specific information they want to read.

An ebook written by a couple of guys who make six figures annually online recommend doing about half and half. So that's what I do. What you want to rank? We all know that title of every page should be different, mean every page should have different keywords to target. So every keywords need back link if it is in inner page then you have to place link for inner page. I have always heard that links should point to your internal pages as well as your front page. It seems more natural to the search engines.
