I'm building a database for classifieds and I have a situation which I don't know how to handle. Here are my tables:
1) General Info : Info that every single classified ad will have, ex. adTitle, adText, date, userId
Some types of ads such as announcements will have no special info outside of General Info.
2) Housing Info : info particular only to housing ads, ex. #baths, #bedrooms
3) Personals Info : info particular only to personal ads, ex. hairColour, eyeColour
My problem is this, for any given row in the General Info table how do I know if it is a housing ad or a personal ad or an announcement and there is no more info? I guess I could put a column in General Info that tells me what type of ad it is but that doesn't seem like a very good solution to me. Does anyone have suggestions? Is there a better way to do this?
