Having converted a nested table design to CSS, I have to say that I am just amazed at the huge difference CSS can make. The site I have been working was particularly large. Pages averaged 40k and the largest was 49k. This was partly due to a large number of forms on each page, for which nothing could be done, but using CSS to replace the nested tables used for layout, this came down to 26K and now, as my CSS has improved a little (!!!) and I have gone through it again optimising code and it's down to 21K. Bearing in mind that the look and feel are exactly the same as the original I think that is just amazing.Hopefully it will reduce your bandwidth needs, hence reducing your server costs etc. That's when it becomes a real bonus.
Anyway, congratulations! I hesitate to ask this, but is all your design working as you wanted it now? Ha ha! Nearly. I have only one remaining problem, which is fairly minor. I replaced the menu with one using a list which works great in IE and in Firefox, but alas there seems to be a 40px displacement to the right in Firefox. I am just about to ask about this in the next post.
