Hi
I created this page (http://www.geocities.com/zaklane1) in the last couple of days. And I have a problem with the footer . I had to put it in to the main central div just to keep it at the bottom . But what I would like to do, is keep it as a separate div alltogether.
cheers zaklane.Giving your main body a position:absolute removes it from the main document flow. Only make your left & right column divs position absolute and leave the main body div alone - just give it large enough margins so it doesn't get hidden behind the left & right divs which are positioned absolute. This way you can add a footer div after the main body div and have it display properly.Yea rsd I agree with you there . If you want to create a three col solid page . The only differance being, the left div is overlapping the content div, which is inturn overlapping the right div, this appears to allow for a cascading effect when the browser is resized, and I don't want to use a containing div, yea well unless I have to . It's kinda like 3 layers at the moment and the footer is sliding up under the content div .
Cheers zaclane.I understand your predicament, it's one I was in a while ago, luckily I found a certain Friday Challange to which a certain Ryan Brill completed. Then I went out and created this (attached).
If you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about then hopefully you will after you have read the comment at the beginning of the CSS in the file.
Basically this layout allows you to keep your side-bars after the main content in your page and it still allows you to have a footer at the bottom (no matter which column is longer).
By the way, take a look at your page in Moz FF 0.8 / Win.
Edit: I'll save you the trouble of looking (http://www.quiterude.com/david/ew.jpg).Well what can I say but thanks lavalamp and Ryan Brill.
I have not had time to change anything yet or for that matter try.
Somehow I think fridays are good days, perhaps the best in the week.
Yea I know about the geocities blurb, but since I'm a canny scot I'm looking into something called Dynamic IP's or dyndns, just to see if that could solve the problem.
What the h*ll is mozilla powerant?
Cheers zaclaneMozilla Powerant is actually Mozilla Firefox, but I have a little extension for it that randomly changes the name every time a new window is opened.
If you need a better host, get over to Brinkster, you can just comment out the ads in the head section:

(The ads are inserted after the first instance of the body tag). Of course doing this would be absolutely, completely unethical and you shouldn't let my evil suggestion corrupt you. Brinkster is a nice place, lots more funcionality than I'm used to.
As for Ethics someone said once, you have to. Examine each question in terms of what is ethically and aesthetically right, as well as what is economically expedient. A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the community. It is wrong when it tends otherwise.
I'v had a little time to mess with the template it's goooood, unfortunatly it wont just slip into my page (http://www17.brinkster.com/zaklane/) just yet.
Your extension really had me thinking, Very nice.
Cheers zaklane
