Content written for people needs more keywords for the SEs?

I think I might have a slight SEO problem.

Using Google webmaster tools and looking at my keywords, it's no wonder that I am not ranking for the keywords that I want to rank for... They keywords Google is picking up for my site are not the keywords I am trying to rank for.

Looking at the Webmaster tools, there are 20 keywords listed and only the name of my site has more than 15% of the "Significance" bar filled in, and only 3 of those keywords are actually relevant to my site. It seems like most of the 'keywords' are actually legal terms taken out of my Terms of Service agreement.

My main page is written for a person to come and understand and is intentionally concise... How do I do a better job of writing for a search engine without changing what is written for humans?

Is this normal, or can I be doing a much better job of onsite SEO?

What can I do to make Google recognize the right keywords? Quote: Originally Posted by Buzzlord I think I might have a slight SEO problem.

What can I do to make Google recognize the right keywords? Well, your site is ranking for the keyword you are not targetting because that keywords have no competition and that's why your site is ranking without promoting for that keywords and you targeted keyword have high competition so it is not ranking for that. You just need to add keyword rich content to your site and continue on quality link building and make sure to add your targeted keywords in anchor text while link building. Try to study and check the problem on your on-page. Focus also more time on improving your on-page. How are you doing for your keywords/phrases under Top search queries?

One side shows how you showed in the search results. The other side shows the clickthru rate for the phrases.

If you click Position, it will sort the list highest (1) to lowest position. If you click it again, it will sort lowest to highest. Other keywords which may not appear so relevant to your site can still provide site traffic and page views so you must be thankful on that. Though there's an obvious poor optimization effort on the site in your case.

As far as my on-site optimization is concern, I only optimize page title and meta description so well and mention at least one main keyword on the content. And declare supporting meta keywords.

If you think there's nothing you can do more with your content to make it more agreeable, SEO wise, do well on your off-page optimization. Build links to boost your link popularity. And from there, see where your site goes.
