Hey Neo..I couldn't find a thread on meta tags...so let's start one!Check this link for a complete explanation: http://www.i18nguy.com/markup/metatags.htmlThese are common tags I use:<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> This is created by Front Page when I create a new page It identifies the content so your browser knows how to display it.<meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 4.0"> Pretty Obvious, not required.<meta name="ProgId" content="FrontPage.Editor.Document">My best guess at this one is that it tells my system what to use to edit the document...maybe<title>My Title</title> What you page is about. Probably the most important tag.<META NAME="robots" CONTENT="FOLLOW,INDEX"> Tells the spiders to follow links from my page.<META name="revisit-after" content="10 days"> Tell's the spider when to come back...not sure if it make a difference. I don't get crawled in 10 day intervals.<META NAME="Description" CONTENT="My site is about xyz.">Put a short description of your site and use your keywords here.<META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="Keywords">I see some people using commas to separate words and phrases in their keyword list. I just list my words with spaces between them. This way the spiders can interpret them how they like. Not sure if it makes a difference. Now that we know what the tag are for can anyone share their experiences with types of usage?nice thread I am pretty stoned about what's happening to my pages. heh.here's my meta tags. guys, Enlighten me if you can.. <head><title>Travel walk - Travel guide, Travel Forums, Travel Photos,</title><meta name="Description" content="travel, travel guides, forums, post your questions here, FREE, " /><meta name="Keywords" content="travel, travel guide, travel forums, information, travel, online, latest recommendations, Western Australia, Tokyo, travel gallery, Europe, traveltalk, maps, asia, America, UK, France, Spain" />I usually used the same ones also. Just the Title, Description, and keywords.Does it make a difference how many keywords are in the keywords meta tag. If I have many, does it take away the strength of the words? Most search engines do not even look at the keyword tag anymore, the major ones anyway. It was important way back in the day when it couldn't be so overly abused.so, if most search engines aren't even looking at keyword tags anymore,we should be concentrating on link popularity.??instead of fussing over the keywords.... Well you should be focusing on everything else we talk about in the forums, I would say that the keyword tag is one of the least important things. But if people have questions about it, we will help out all we can, just do not focus a lot of time on it. But I think the original post was talking about all tags, not just the keyword tag.
