I am returning to lisp after a number of years. I know it is an obvious question, but I cannot work out how to read a line of text from the keyboard, put it into a variable, and print it on the screen. I am using CLISP 2.49 and LispIDE (I gave up in disgust, trying to get EMACS to work). Everything I have tried doesn't appear to work. Any suggestions would be VERY gratefully appreciated (I am trying to write an English-t-Gaelic translator, incidentally). Many thanks!
