Changing text on multiple pages?

What is the best (i.e. easiest) way to have text (a date) change on mulitple pages. For example, if I had the link to an article on several pages and I wanted to let the users now what the date of the article was posted on, how could I do this?<!--content-->Probably be best to use a server-side method like PHP or something. Have you got any?<!--content-->
