Changing file name

Hi

After careful consideration I've decided to change some of my keywords this will now result in having to change some file names I'am already on the first page of google for many of these keywords but I'am convinced I can do better after all the seo methods are implemented, however I'am worried what if the new file names dont perform as well does the old file name have to be totally deleted can it be diverted.

Thanks

Mark You certainly should divert your old files to new ones because it will take some time for Google to completly remove your old files from search results and to pick up new ones. To increase ranking for new files you should also do off page optimisation, link building, don't focus only on on page optimisation. You can redirect old files to new files using 301 redirect. In this case don't worry about it. Why are you fixing something that ain't broken? You are already on page 1 you said. Maybe just some improvement on the content or some incoming links will move you up in position? Or... patience waiting if it moves up all by itself. Hi, Mark

You don't need to delete them manually since they are no longer exist. In my own experiences, changing file name or url would lead to lost of your current ranking since search engines would need to re-index your new urls. 301 redirection might be not work for this purpose, IMO.
