Can't open pdf in new tab on wordpress (html)

I want a pdf document to open in a new tab and I'm trying with this code:\[code\]a href="http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15717435/xyz.pdf" target="_blank"\[/code\]but it doesn't seem to work, as it keeps opening the .pdf on the same page/tab.Would much apreciate any suggestions.PS. this is a wordpress website and the link sits on a page while the pdf document is uploaded in the media.many thanks
