i want to install a separate wordpress website in a subfolder .
That is domain.com/subfolder and i want to rank it for different keyword.
does it is going to effect my existing website that is domain.com's seo .
and does it seo friendly to make website in subfolder.

Hope that helps If the site is designed with programming then everything is in your hand and you can develop a whole new site under a folder. But if you want to promote both for the different keywords then better to with subdomain.domain.tld format. I think so
From all that I have read over the years, not able to quote any sources, I tend to agree with content demon above me. A sub-domain is nothing but a folder on your site but the SE's tend to treat them as a separate domain while a folder is considered an extension of your site.
If I were going in a different direction with the new part, I would do it as a sub-domain. if its totally related to your site i go with subfolder.. and just like what the other said if its going in a different direction go with the subdomain. If you want to install a blog it is fine, but if you want to do a new website(not related to your main domain), I would suggest not to do that. Instead you can host the other site on subdomain. I recommend you to go with sub-domains rather than sub-folders. Sub-folders are considered as one part of the website. Sub-domains works more like separate sites compared to sub-folders. Thanks You Can Add As many As Subdirectories And You Can Install Wordpress To For Subdirectories And There Is No need To Worry About SeO ranking..
if You are Using FTP to Upload Your site Then Its Very Easy Too maintain All these Things And Go ahead With Your Thoughts
