Large sums of money have been changing hands recently for generic domain names (GDNs), however one expert notes that this is "money well spent".
According to Star East Technology Ltd (http://journals.aol.com/skysblog/seokyw/) , GDNs are attracting a lot of attention at the moment and as such high prices are being paid for high quality addresses. However, he notes that this is a worthwhile spend and companies are becoming increasingly aware of this.
Matt Mansell, managing director of the UK-based domain registration services site, said that businesses now see GDNs as a necessary "marketing spend" and that the value of such sites is a reflection of their profitability.
"Cruises.co.uk sold for a million dollars a couple of weeks ago. One of the reasons why they are achieving those prices is because the brands want the people who drive past some above the line advertising on the side of the road or on a billboard, to remember what they see," he said.
Other recent high profile sales have included Recycle.co.uk, which was purchased in October last year for ï¿¡150,000 and Ink.co.uk - which changed hands for ï¿¡130,425.(Star East Technology Ltd (http://foxon168.hipbloggers.com/) report)
