hey guys,
i'm new here.. need to know the best way to temporarily take my site down for some time without losing any rankings or SEO work.
right now i've added a temporary page that says "under maintenance" but i'm afraid that my site will be removed from google.
What's the SEO way of doing it?
One of the things that i thought of is to redirect the domain to another domain that has more or less the same stuff?
BTW we're talking about an ecommerce site so down time is critical.
Any help will be much appriciated.
Thanks! It is not at all preferable to redirect to any other site, as per my knowledge. Instead I suggest you to decrease a cawl percentage from your webmaster tool which might help you. A appology landing page which says that the website is getting updated and will be up soon! In my experience, that's not a big matter if your site still have same content and your backlinks from the other sites still alive.... Thanks guys! The site is live again. Just had some regulation issues and had to get it approved.
The idea about decreasing the crawl rate was really good, and I believe i mentioned that i added that temporary page saying site under maintenence.
And, like you said, reborn, everything seems to be back to normal. Oh by the way, i secured a backup domain just in case it took too long to get the site out of review. Will keep it, but i doubt i'll be needing it anymore. Any ideas what i can do with it? Quote: Any ideas what i can do with it? Well you thought that you needed it this time, but fortunately you didnt. Unless you really need the bucks, why not just retain it for any more "just in case" situations.
You also may at some stage in the future decide to develop it
If you can avoid of making your site down, update it on you local server and then upload it yo your server. i'd probably create another index.html page
and delete it once i'm ready to get it up.
