Base64 encoding web fonts into css

I'm afraid I'm a bit confused by the concept. I understand it, and have used it, however..I read a TypeKit article where they encouraged it as a choice method of prevention for theft of web fonts.I'm not sure I understand everything about it, but from what I understand, based on my experience using this method .. is that anyone can just copy+paste the base64 encoded font from my css, and immediately use it on their website. Not to mention decode it into the original file.I know this optimizes load time versus normal http requests for the fonts, but am I missing something here? Is there an additional step to prevent theft of Base64 encoded fonts?Thank you.
