Baidu says Microsoft's Bing to power its English search...http://news.yahoo.com/baidu-says-mi...NhdAN0ZWNofGludGVybmV0BHB0A3NlY3Rpb25z;_ylv=3
"The move will also pave the way for Baidu's overseas business expansion, especially in the English-language search market."
What do people think?
Baidu is a big company with lots of finances, it certainly has the ability to penetrate western markets. Even if it can gain a 10% market share in the west that is very big business.
My feeling is this is a positive. We really need several high profile search engines on the market. mmm true, we do need more search engines to improve competition, but I don't think Bing is the one to do it. They don't have enough of a differentiation. As I am sure you know ;-) DuckDuckGo has at least a few points of difference that make it worth looking at. Bing is just too much a copy of what Google produces.
Imagine if Bing had a local search that was listed based purely on price, you type in "plumbers" and it gives you the nearest AND cheapest.... i could go on.
