Can anyone point me in the right direction about this. If submit a link to a sub-domain of a site, that counts as a backlink - right? But if I get a second link on another sub-domain of theirs will that count as a backlink too or not?Thing is that this what I've done a few times and gogle don't seem to feel that the second is worthy, maybe because it's from the same domain. I was under the assumption that http://www.soap.com and http://www.joe.soap.com were different. In the results the second does come up if I view 'similar pages'Anyone have some ideas?not that long ago i found this website selling ringtones...basically they had around 100 different subdomains with different backdoors on each one of them. It seemed like they were getting pleanty of traffic... They were also spamming everywhere with all 100 or so linksQuote:It will also help if the subdomains have unique content that is not just more info about the same topic the parent domain covers. Subdomains are supposed to be used...according to google...for unique content: "Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content. " from: http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.htmlAll of our subdomains have unique content specific to the area but the link pages on some of the guys often have similar content and that where I'm finding the problem.I had a similar issue when I started to share links between domains. What I did was to organize them different;y on each site...IE. one by state, others by category, there's also a date variabel since not all the sites came on line at the same time....I also try to sort them different based on alphabetizing, date of entry, category ..etc..Tyr to give youself as many options as you can when capturing the link info from you partners.Anyone know of any good reading to learn more about this. I don't fully understand all it pro's and con's. How do know what a good site is to submit your link to. Also how do the search engines know if it pertains to your site. Like I do custom graphics and decals would I be ok to submit my link to any automotive site as this are for autos? Or would I have to go with graphic web sites. So if someone has some good reading that they would share so I could better understand all of this. Thank you BillI have been thinking about this one for months now and think that if you want to rank for a wide variety of top level topics you need to expand the sites that you are willing to link with...to a certain degree.Let me explain.I live in a ski town. In addition to skiing we have golf, festivals, lodging, an airport, tons of gourmet resturants, extremely expensive luxury real estate, film festivals, etc...I have been trading links with sites related to all these topics....I link back to my sites section on the particular topic. I.E a link from a golf site would link to my golf properties. What's happing now is that I'm ranking for global terms related to these topics with the words real estate attached...probably an effect of LSI....so anyone looking for "ski real estate" or "resort real estate" is going to find me...as well as anyone looking for MyTown or MyState real estate...My sites are reale state related...or are they. Most real estate buyers need financing, they may need to travel, they will need a place to stay, food to eat, a car to drive, or a taxi, a lawyer for closing, an apprasier...they might even want to do a little shopping, check out the events calendar..buyers also need title insurance, fire and damage/liability insurance, home warranties, inspections, repairs, anybody see Bob Vila's real estate listing in thier ranks? Like he's a realtor.... and so on. If they are buying land they might need a surveyor or an architect and builder...someone to test the water.Just use your imagination Anyone have an opinion on if the topics are page related or site related...how would a company like WalMart fair..what is their theme...they rank well for almost everything they sell...but they sell so many diverse items that a theme is almost impossible to determine...what's the theme for the yahoo directory...they have sections listed all over google for hundreds of different topics....anyone...buhler?I have read in many forums that google does not consider links from subdomains. And even more, they do not consider links from websites hosted on the same IP. Although they may index those links, they do not consider them "quality" links, therefore they will not affect your PR.Hi siggy...time to get a new source. Google treats a subdomain and it's outgoing links as an individual site...as it does links from sites on the same iphere's an example of a link counted from a subdomain: link:www.catsman.com view all the links and you'll see one from catsman.telluriderealestate.bizHere's a two interlinked sites on the same ip that are getting credit for the links link:www.sallypuffcourtney.comsee the links from http://www.homes-in-telluride.comNow ping them both and you'll see the ip address is the same.Read question #5 from this article: http://interviews.slashdot.org/intervie ... tml?tid=95There is no way that google does not count external links from the same ip. Look at the company I work for 10 hours a day 5 days a week building fully optimized sites that all rank 4 or higher.. Yep all of them!(one a day). http:www.wiworks.com/ . Our network of links are all on the same ip. Dif domains but the same ip address we have over 300 sites on the same ip. Like google is not going to let all 300 of those sites have external links to each other... just because it is on the same server... Crazyness Shyshka![/quote]One thing that they may do is look up the domain owner...then it may be an issue. Because that would signal something un-natural. I virtually host a bunch of sites for people in the same town...some link to each other because of the value of the their content...google does not have a problem with it. And the sites cover different topics. If you buy a bunch of domains and host them all on the same ip and aggressively link them together....look out!We buy a bunch of domains for many dif. companies and build them online stores etc... All of these domains are real websites and none of them are just door way pages. We do not link them all together... I study google well. We are in the clear.. We are not breaking any rules..I haven't looked at or evaluated the sites ... but so far everything sounds legit. Google does not have a problem with linking on the same IP, as long as it is "reasonable". Not a whole lot different from a thousand other SEMs."We do not link them all together... I study google well. We are in the clear.. We are not breaking any rules.." ...sounds good to me too.....I assume you have unique content.....and are probably marketing them differently...ie...different keywords.
