Backlinks and google updating

How long it takes before google counts a backlink? What I mean is this, a link can be showing as a valid active link today, but does google actually 'count' today or dos it update the link count, every week, every month or something like that?

Thanks in advance.

Also, do all the other main search engines work on the same principle, i.e. bing, yahoo. First, if you have a backlink somewhere, ping that page so the googlebot can see that backlink as fast as possible. After that, it depends on the quality of the backlink... If that's a poor quality link on a forum profile, Google could never count it for your rankings...

If that's a good link , google may take up to 2 months before counting it... Yahoo is faster and Bing, I don't really know... Thanks for your reply. Thats what I was thinking. I think the discovery of back links depends on the site where they are located. Depending on the trust rank, google bot periodically collect information. The higher is trust rank of the site, the faster the bots will find links to your site. rosarionet is probably right. I don't think every site has to wait the same amount of time. Certainly, sites that are already trusted by Google will get credit for those links sooner. It's a complex algorithm and new sites will always take long to get any sort of credit. A backlink isn't counted until it is crawled and then indexed by Google. If your back links is never found it will never be counted. As someone mentioned try pinging it and then give it a little time to become indexed. Hope this helps. I just want to say that if backlinks discovering depends on the ping - I would ping the sites from which I have backlinks millions times a day, ie I do not think the discovering depends on the ping. It is important for blogs that publish a new article. I have also been doing what I think are backlinks using google alerts to find relevant articles to comment on and place a contextual backlink. These sites are all normally pagerank 5 and above and nearly always newspaper articles. Most are no follow but some are do follow. Most of these are never seen when I check my backlinks using Yahoo but I have moved up a couple of notches with google (top 10) and with bing the results have been amazing top 5. My question is that obviously they have taken effect but why cant I see them when checking my backlinks. Its takes 2 to 4 months to appear backlink in search engines...

And some times it takes 6 months to appear in search engines, but if the backlinks are in high ranking sites, then it takes only a month to appear... It really depends, Google bot crawls site that they loved, if perhaps you've been posting on one of those site, it simply means it has a great chance that your link will be more counted as a backlink. So, build links wisely..interact only to those highly relevant niches. You can ping them it'll have them indexed in a couple days Quote: Originally Posted by johndeal How long it takes before google counts a backlink? Another is, Google doesn't show all your backlinks using the link: command. So don't be confused if you will find less backlinks on the result. Index and ping your links. It depends on the quality of the sites you have backlinks on! It depends on the time in which crawler will index your backlink as soon it will get indexed Google will count it as a backlink Based on my experience, it takes a month before search engined recognize your backlinks. That's when ping come into play... to help Google recognize your backlinks. I, too, believe that each search engine got their particular principles and limitations with regards to indexing websites. Some seem to appear within days and some I never see. It is not helped by the fact that you can't get a definitive list anyway that depend on the PR of the page where you have a backlink on it and the time it takes to get indexed
