Backlink Profile?

If all the backlinks you have are social bookmarks, you may get a traffic boost, but will your audience be targeted enough? What do you do to diversify the types of backlinks for your sites? What shortcomings do you see in the SEO market? With so many options, I'm interested to see what strategies and techniques different people use. My strategy has always been to focus on a few factors:

• Duplicate the top competitors back links
• Search for available back link resources that are:
› Untapped by the Competition
› Show Promise and Growth
› Doesn't Appear as a Possible Future Spam Link
• Diversify through broad categories of back links, inside industry and outside
• Invest in meaningful web advertising venues that allow robust blogging, profiles, etc.

Of course this is vague and broad, but it gives a rough outline of my focus. My Job as an SEO is often times trumped by other duties, so having a defined strategy is integral to staying on task and tracking your success based on pre-defined goals. I do the following to increase the backlinks of my sites.

social bookmarking
ping
article directory
forum posting
dofollow blog commenting

whatever u do. u main aim should be ur target keywords and build as many links using them so they get more exposed to the SE's thus at a certain point will drive organic traffic to ur sites if ur target keywords gets a top rank. social bookmarking helps a lot in SEO.. but aside from that, i also use the following:
- article submission
- ad posting
- forum posting

though it seems like I've been using the old techniques, still they're powerful and helpful in my site

i also think that directory submission helps a lot too... though it takes time.. i always do the typical way and i just do it only with a twist. i think profile is not valueable Quote: Originally Posted by davidgong i think profile is not valueable Why is that? Try to get lots of different types of links. Personally I stay away from social bookmarking links, at least as a strategy. Like you implied, the visitors you gain are usually less targeted but even more to the point I find them to have a short attention span (especially if we're talking twitter, facebook etc.). The best strategy for backlinks is to have them as diversified as possible. Forums, blogs, profiles, directories etc. Personally I concentrate most of my efforts on forums as its a great way of contributing while receiving a backlink in return - and google really seems to like those backlinks too.
