ASP or ASP.NET

I am applying for a position which requires (or they think requires) a working knowledge of ASP. Does it make sense to learn ASP at this point in time, or can ASP.NET replicate ASP? I know that there is alot more functionality and flexibility with ASP.NET (though I would have to learn c# also at the same time).

"Should I still bother to learn the ins and outs of ASP?" I guess is my question. I see fewer and fewer books on the subject out on the shelves. Thank you. If there is a duplicate thread a direction to that would be helpful. I tried and cannot find it.

Also, is O'reilly the better source for a book on this matter? I got a couple of SAMS books and halfway through, both of them became useles.ASP.NET is far far far more powerful then asp classic. I went straight to asp.net and know some asp classic. I would not bother with learning classic at this point.

also see some links in my profile.

You do not need to learn c#, you can use vb.net, c#, c++.net, j#, and many others to program in asp.net. But I suggest vb.net or c# as they are the most popular.

Asp.net is newer and is gradually replacing classic. Thanks for the reply. I am going to go out and grab my C# and ASP.net book tonight.Originally posted by PeOfEo

THANKS!

ASP.NET is much better. I'm learning VB.NET, and it's simple....then I'm jumping to C#, finally to ASP.NET....from there, the sky is the limit!thanks!

so the job market is nice for an ASP.NET developer?

i have experience developing in asp/vb.vb.net is a language and asp.net is technology. It helps to know vb.net if you use asp.net. I would not say the webdevelopment industry is really great for anyone, it is packed. But asp.net is going to offer more opportunities than anything else as asp classic was the business language and it is shifting to asp.net.
